Turkish Society of Microbiology: The Turkish Society for Microbiology (TMC) is a non-profit scientific society founded on 22 July 1931 in Istanbul and is one of the oldest societies in Türkiye. It is the national society for microbiologists in Türkiye. Its mission is to promote microbiology development in Türkiye, represent the interests of microbiologists, and facilitate communication between Microbiologists in Türkiye and around the world. It will continue to expand its interest groups, seek collaboration from other microbiology societies worldwide, and continue to operate as a strong and active society in Türkiye. TMC supports and reports the scientific studies and observations of professionals in all microbiological fields including veterinary, agricultural, industrial, medical, and public health or other fields related to microbiology. The main activities of TMC are to report the scientific studies and observations of professionals who have completed or are completing a PhD or Master's degree in medical (clinical) microbiology, veterinary microbiology, agricultural and industrial microbiology, molecular microbiology, bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, immunology, allergy, infectious diseases, food hygiene, food engineering, biotechnology, epidemiology, public health or other fields related to microbiology, and to disseminate and help scientific developments by communicating with similar scientific associations, to protect the legal rights of its members when necessary, to represent them in national and international organizations permitted by the Council of Ministers, to carry out studies directed towards national problems related to its subject, to have them carried out and to search for solutions to them. TMC continues to expand its interest groups and collaboration with other microbiology societies The society organizes several scientific activities each year, including the National Congress of Microbiology every two years, alternating with the congress organized by the Society of Microbiology Specialists of Türkiye (KLIMUD), symposia, Works hops, and training courses. TMC had been hosted international conferences, symposia, and workshops, including the ESC MID-2001, IUMS-2008, and FEMS events. The TMC also publishes the Journal of Turkish Society of Microbiology (Turk Mikrobiyol Cem Derg) ISSN:0258-2171 e-ISS N:2458-7516 since 1971, quarterly issues per year. The TMC has a membership of over 2,500 microbiologists of which 1743 women and 933 men from all over Türkiye. TMC brings together scientists working in medical, veterinary, food, environmental, oral, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, molecular microbiology, and biotechnology under its roof. The majority of this large group of scientists are young women with an average age of 38±2.
